Lagos 24th August 2020 — The iconic veteran stand-up Nigerian comedian, Atunyota Alleluya Akpobome, popularly known as Alibaba GCFR joined the NACK League of Xtraordinary Nigerians project in collaboration with Helpnow.ng, to help donate 5,000 ($13) each to 2,000,000+ extremely vulnerable people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in Lagos.
With the project campaign initially kicked off by the music legend, 2Face Idibia, who auctioned his autographed Jersey at 500,000 Naira, the Nack & Help-Now project still has a handful of even more extraordinary Nigerians who will also take part individually in the auctioning project.
On the 1st of April, 2020, the Humanitarian Affairs Ministry began paying 20,000 ($52) to families registered in the National Social Register of Poor and Vulnerable Household set up by the Buhari administration in 2016 to fight against poverty. Although the government said that each family will receive this fund for the next four months, it is evident that only a fraction of Nigerians will receive this economic assistance. (HRW News)
Despite the public declaration of assistance by the government and the inability to follow through with it, millions of Nigerians estimated to live in extreme poverty on less than $1.90 a day are still suffering and are in need of financial aid to live through this pandemic. This is why NACK & Help-Now initiative has created this project as a way to help Lagosians desperately in need of help.
The veteran comedian who has won many awards including City People Awards and National Daily Awards as the best comedian of the decade in 2009, will have his auction live on his Instagram page in September 2020.
